Cesare Cugnasco is the founder of Qbeast, a spin-off from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) launched in 2020 . He earned a PhD in Computer Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), holds both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin, and completed an Executive MBA at the Quantic School of Business and Technology.
During his eight-year tenure at BSC, Cesare was a recognized research engineer. He invented the patented Qbeast technology, which blends multidimensional indexing and sampling for high-performance analytics . His contributions spanned several European research initiatives including Severo Ochoa, the Human Brain Project, IBiDaaS, QUAKE, and Brain Atlas use cases .
Cesare has collaborated with major technology firms such as Atos, Cray, IBM, Intel, and SAG, as well as industrial leaders including CaixaBank, Fiat Chrysler, and Telefónica . He also helped organize Spark Meetup BCN, one of Barcelona’s most active big data community events .
His work centers on scalable data systems, efficient storage architectures, indexing, and analytics tailored for modern data lake environments.
