Reimagining data from the ground up, Qbeast merges big data scale with high performance computing precision

Srikanth Satya is the CEO of Qbeast, where he brings a rare combination of visionary leadership and hands-on technical depth to revolutionize how data infrastructure drives modern analytics. With over two decades of experience in cloud and data platforms, Srikanth has been instrumental in envisioning and building foundational services at Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure—laying the groundwork for what have become core components of the modern cloud.
Before Qbeast, Srikanth served as Chief Technology Officer at Wheels Up, where he led the digital transformation of private aviation. By integrating AI, machine learning, and operations research, he redefined flight scheduling and operational efficiency—setting a new technology benchmark for the sector.
At Dell EMC, he played a critical role in shaping its data platform strategy: he helped elevate Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) to the #1 private cloud object storage solution, conceived and built Pravega, a CNCF open-source streaming data engine, and broadened Dell’s data platform offerings to meet the demands of modern applications, analytics, and AI workloads.
Srikanth holds multiple patents and is a passionate advocate for open source, cloud-native architectures, and intelligent data indexing. At Qbeast, he leads the mission to democratize efficient analytics through open formats and smart indexing technologies.
Outside of tech, Srikanth has represented both India and the United States in Masters cricket, and leads a non-profit organization that fosters innovation and creative thinking among youth.

Cesare Cugnasco is the founder of Qbeast, a spin-off from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) launched in 2020 . He earned a PhD in Computer Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), holds both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin, and completed an Executive MBA at the Quantic School of Business and Technology.
During his eight-year tenure at BSC, Cesare was a recognized research engineer. He invented the patented Qbeast technology, which blends multidimensional indexing and sampling for high-performance analytics . His contributions spanned several European research initiatives including Severo Ochoa, the Human Brain Project, IBiDaaS, QUAKE, and Brain Atlas use cases .
Cesare has collaborated with major technology firms such as Atos, Cray, IBM, Intel, and SAG, as well as industrial leaders including CaixaBank, Fiat Chrysler, and Telefónica . He also helped organize Spark Meetup BCN, one of Barcelona’s most active big data community events .
His work centers on scalable data systems, efficient storage architectures, indexing, and analytics tailored for modern data lake environments.

Flavio Junqueira is a leading expert in distributed systems with a Ph.D. from UC San Diego. He has over 6,000 academic citations and has earned awards from USENIX and IEEE. Flavio has held senior roles at Yahoo! Research, Microsoft Research, Confluent, and Dell Technologies, where he led work on data management and streaming analytics. He co-created Apache ZooKeeper and contributed to Apache BookKeeper, Kafka, and Pravega. Now CTO at Qbeast in Barcelona, Flavio is highly interested and active in collaborative tech initiatives.
